According to a report in the Commercial Carrier Journal (CCJ), nationwide June 8 Class 8 truck sales were quite strong.

Significant Increase Over Previous June

On Wednesday, July 5, FTR Research released data regarding net orders for the month. The 17,600 units sold represent a significant year-over-year increase of 38 percent. June sales were seven percent higher than those recorded in May. FTR anticipates that many of the June Class 8 truck orders will be fulfilled in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Total Class 8 net orders for the 12-month period ending June 30 total 216,000 units.

Industry Analyst Comments

CCJ quoted Don Ake, FTR's VP of Commercial Vehicles, who said, “The June orders confirm that the market just took a brief respite in May after several stronger than expected months.” Ake suggests that overall sales for the year are on track with FTR's projections. According to Ake, the strong June is due in part to fleets addressing projected demand for the remainder of 2017. June's data also bodes well for the future. Ake says, “the market is steady, stable and primed for a strong year in 2018.”
