Advantages Of OnCommand Connection Telematics From Navistar International

Navistar International’s innovative OnCommand Connection (OCC) is the first open architecture system that functions with every telematics system. OnCommand uses an open architecture diagnostics platform using the SAE J1939 communication standard, a standard universally employed by all OEMs.

Reduced Downtime

OCC captures valuable information from the fault code action plans (FCAPs) which clearly communicate vehicle status. They also serve up questions which help to determine whether there's a problem to address. Finally, the FCAP provides efficient access to both diagnostic and repair data which cuts downtime.

OCC works in part because the vehicle’s electronics are always sending information to the communication network Can Bus. Diagnostic trouble codes and the trucks status can be monitored in the system in real-time. OnCommand alerts empower the fleet manager to avert possible catastrophic damage to critical components.

Easily Customized

Another unique feature of OCC is its customization capacity. Fleet managers can set alerts for particular dates and times to address low fluid conditions. OnCommand also analyzes truck usage data to identify problematic areas. For example, it might be possible to identify a high failure rate with a given part. The fleet manager can then take steps to proactively replace the problem component across the fleet.

More than 1/4 million vehicles are already registered in the OnCommand connection, and more than half of them are vehicles from OEMs other than Navistar. Therefore, fleet owners can take advantage of its capabilities even if they own a variety of makes and models.

Fewer Breakdowns

According to Navistar, OCC customers have experienced up to 80 percent fewer roadside breakdowns and about 1/3 less in maintenance costs. These are significant gains that can enhance profits.
