Diesel Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the Service Manager for daily assignments.
  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Communicates with Parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Road tests vehicle when required.
  • Participates in manufacturer sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Familiar with diagnostic equipment and able to document in system.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work as requested.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Diesel Technician Experience/Skills:

  • at least 1 to 2 years of proven diesel engine maintenance experience
  • Possess own tools to perform work on all diesel equipment
  • CDL license preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of A/C, brake and emission systems, air systems and diagnostics / trouble shooting of diesel engines
  • Basic computer skills with ability to use diagnostic programs.
  • Willingness to maintain required on-line training throughout employment.
  • Customer service oriented.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality repairs and maintenance on all Heavy truck and diesel engines as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspections.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Accurately complete all paperwork including repair information on work orders and keeping detailed records on all work performed.
  • Ability to organize the work presented and plan for the highest efficiency and productivity in the performance of all job functions.
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are properly working.
  • Consistently maintains training and education as assigned by management and participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned.

Experience / Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in an OEM Heavy Truck dealership setting.
  • Possess factory training certifications in drivetrain, electrical, braking systems, etc.
  • Holds CDL license or can obtain a CDL license.
  • Fluent with current diagnostic software.
  • Knowledgeable of diagnostic and repair systems.
  • Attention to detail and excellent documentation skills.
