Earlier in 2017, Mitsubishi Fuso introduced a medium-duty electric truck, the eCanter, at the Work Truck Show. On July 31, small-scale eCanter production began in Tramagal, Portugal, following several years of testing in Lisbon and throughout the country.

First of its Kind

Marc Llistosella, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus, says, “With today’s start of production of the eCanter, we become the first global manufacturer to produce an all-electric truck in series.”

eCanter Details

The eCanter is a 15,995-lb GVW-rated truck with a 9,380-lb payload capacity. Customers who require less than the normal 100-mile range can choose to increase payload by decreasing the number of batteries. The eCanter employs the same premium batteries used in Mercedes S-class vehicles.

The batteries can be quick-charged in an hour at DC charging stations. Using a 240-volt outlet, the batteries are fully recharged in eight hours. All eCanter trucks will come with a two-year lease, allowing customers to trade-up to the next-gen version.

Deliveries With a Month

The eCanter will be delivered to customers in the United States, Japan and Europe. Fuso expects that the first deliveries of the medium-duty, all-electric truck will begin within one month. Mitsubishi Fuso anticipates that large-scale production will commence within one year.
