Sales Strong For International's New LT Series

Just half-a-year after its launch, the new long-haul LT series from International is attracting significant interest across the trucking industry.

Navistar CEO Troy Clarke indicates that the company has already received more than 5,000 orders. Approximately 2,500 units were delivered during a recent three-month period. Clarke told the Commercial Carrier Journal (CCJ) that the new design has attracted interest from larger fleets that have not considered International in recent years. He says that Navistar provided LT quotes to approximately 40 percent of the top 50 companies in 2016.

Powerful, Efficient Engines

The LT series is powered by new Cummins X15 Performance and X15 Efficiency options. The Efficiency design optimizes fuel efficiency and power. Increased MPG is the result of:

  • The proprietary XPI fuel system
  • An upgraded VGT Turbo
  • A more efficient combustion process
  • Better engine breathing
  • Enhanced electronic controls with ADEPT

Meanwhile, the X15 Performance Series has been engineered to deliver:

  • Quicker throttle response
  • Improved air handling
  • Enhanced braking power at lower RPM

The VGT Turbo features a new impeller design that provides better braking and a quicker power boost. The beefed up VGT Turbo is 4-6 times stronger than its predecessor.

International's SmartAdvantage powertrain is approximately seven percent more fuel-efficient than competing integrated powertrains. It represents the culmination of collaborative efforts with Cummins and Eaton. The ground-up design offers unparalleled aerodynamics which also improve mpg.

Other features include:

  • Reduced wind noise
  • Tough polycarbonate fog lights
  • Bright LED headlights

Finally, Cummins after-treatment system provides enhanced heat management via an innovative flow-through design. Reduced cleanings are due to increased ash capacity and better efficiency. The integrated system is as much as 60 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than certain competing two-part systems.
